A quick history of rum: from sugarcane to tropical beaches

During the Seven Years’ War between 1756 and 1763, the British Royal Navy introduced the practice of giving rum to sailors as a daily ration, known as “grog”. This practice contributed to further spreading the consumption of rum worldwide.

In recent decades, rum has experienced a rediscovery thanks to the growing interest in craft beverages and mixology. High-quality rum producers have begun to use traditional production techniques, such as natural yeast fermentation and aging in oak barrels, to create unique and sophisticated products.
